It has worked out well because the passengers that ride the trains into Monticello have displays to look at. This year it was the APRHF, Illini railroad club and a live steam display. We had about 500 people tour the displays over the weekend. The operation works well. There are three different trains that run to Monticello. Caboose freight, Diesel powered passenger and Steam passenger with an open gondola to ride in. If you are interested in visiting their museum here is the link to their site.
Below are some photos of the APRHF Model Ambassador:
Amy is pondering the layout of the city before she works on painting the road. We do most of our scenic work at the shows so people can see how that works too.
This is our yard module that serves both ends when they are brought. Each end set has a double track main. The yard module connects via bridge. The grain elevator and the shop is the new items on the yard table. We also have quick disconnects mounted on each table. Set up time was 20 minutes compared to the usual 45 minutes.
The Southwest Limited rolls by on the other table as the grain elevator gets busy filling cars.
The shop is full of ready to go power. The road switcher is also dropping off a few cars in the siding.
That is pretty exciting but what you get to ride to see the layouts is even more fun.
This is the Caboose freight as seen just outside the Monticello Station. There are two cabooses to ride in.
This train is gorgeous. The IC cars look great and so does that FA with the Steam Generator car.
Southern Railway number 401 is making its way to Monticello. That first car was always full. For sure a fun way to come to town.
It is always a good time when trains of all sizes are running. The next outing for the APRHF Model Ambassador is Trainfest in Milwaukee, WI. No matter where you live. Get out and support your local museum or train exhibit. If you have a group and are wanting to get organized. Please take a moment and contact us about our chapter opportunities.
