Additional railroad artifacts are also on display throughout the interior and exterior of the Depot Inn & Suites itself. Click here for photographs of some of those items. An extensive profession model railroad layout is planned to be soon installed in a second ex-Amtrak Mail Handling Car (MHC) that is located immediately next to the Exhibition of Amtrak History. There are also many other locations of interest to train enthusiasts within a short walk of the Exhibition of Amtrak History including the Chris Guenzler Millionth Mile Train Watching Lookout Cabin, the restored historic Santa Fe Depot / Amtrak Station, the Silver Rails Event Center, and the TrainWeb.com / TrainParty.com building. The goal of the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation (APRHF) is to build in La Plata, Missouri, an 80,000 square foot museum devoted to the American history of passenger rail. Other aspects of railroad history will also be featured. Additional educational aspects proposed by the APRHF include a museum of Missouri heritage and a pavilion of clean energy generation, especially in how each of these relates to the history and future of passenger rail travel.
